Read more about her journey and her latest projects dedicated to her anonymous lung donor. Where it Started Born and raised in New York City, Chloe Temtchine thrives in the music scene. She has known her entire life that she wanted to be a musician. Growing up attending a Baptist church, she learned Christian/Gospel songs and other songs from the radio. She would then run and lock herself in her room to learn how to play the melodies on piano. She even performed some of the songs on stage at her church in Harlem. This is where it started! She wrote her first song when she was six! -The interview, told by Samantha Ann. Individuality and Independence Chloe stated that Toby Gad taught her how to write a song. She believes he is the “most talented songwriter of our time”. She recalled that he believed in her very early on. As far as musical influences, Chloe mentioned that she has no particular artist she strives to be like. This expresses her individuality and independence. These qualities can be admired. Some pieces of advice that have resonated with Chloe are “Be true to yourself” from her mother and “Do what you can with what you have”. "Was told I had days to live." When asked about her health struggles, Chloe opened up and said: “After five years of being misdiagnosed by top doctors, in 2013, I was finally diagnosed with severe Pulmonary Hypertension and Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease and was told I had days to live. I was on oxygen 24/7 for seven years, doing all that I could with what I had. I got better, then worse. In 2020, I went into cardiac arrest, was in a coma for 4 days, and on life support (ECMO) for 21 days. I received a life-saving double lung transplant at UCLA, on August 5, 2020." "I will never again take breathing for granted. I am beyond grateful to be alive and to be discussing music today versus mere survival.” I asked Chloe “who donated their lungs and what would you say to them if you had the chance?” She replied, “I don’t know who donated their lungs to me. All I know is that it was a young woman. I tried reaching out to her family but I never heard back, which is totally understandable. "...feel as though I’m living for two people." I will spend the rest of my life thanking the mysterious and incredible person who selflessly gifted me her lungs, giving me a second chance at life. “Thank you” will never be enough. My album titled “Human” is only one of the many projects I’m working on that is dedicated to my donor. I take her spirit with me everywhere I go and feel as though I’m living for two people." When I told my UNICEF Chief, Jenny Gamming, that I would have to forgo my dream job at UNICEF to move to Canada and figure out a new career trajectory, she told me “Well, sometimes in life, you have to let go of certain things you love to open up new windows of opportunities”. Even after a dose of hope from Jenny, I could sense the fears of uncertainty. Conquering those initial fears was like skydiving without a parachute—heart-stopping, but exhilarating.  And let me tell you, adapting to the tech scene was like trying to learn the latest TikTok dance - awkward at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s addictive. Venturing into new career paths has been like going on a thrilling adventure for me. While I’ve switched from working at UNICEF to joining the tech industry at Vendasta, my bigger goal of making a positive impact has remained consistent. I soon realized that making a difference wasn't just about traditional roles. It could be part of any job. That realization pushed me to explore how I could help those in most need. Both my roles at UNICEF and SNODA allowed me to work with the most vulnerable children. I was able to be the voice of children and bring forth the stories of the most marginalized children affected by severe floods and drowning to the world, through my work as a Communications Officer. The desire to help lived on and I took it forward with my role at SNODA, an NGO working relentlessly to help slum children in Bangladesh from the dangers of being derailed. Seeing their struggles made me want to do something to help with their basic education, nutrition, and skill development and there’s so much more to do. When I talk to these children and hand them something as small as a notebook or a meal,  I realize that every little act of kindness towards them makes them feel welcome - a feeling they are mostly deprived of. In a harsh world where they are secluded from society primarily because of their socioeconomic status, even the smallest act of kindness makes them feel like they are worthy of being seen, valued, accepted, and respected. In their eyes, I see a glint of hope sparked by our small acts - a reminder of the value in things we might take for granted. It shows me that when you're passionate about something, you'll always find a way to make a difference, no matter how small. Can you elaborate on the symbiotic relationship between personal growth and career advancement, and how embracing discomfort can catalyze both professional success and altruistic endeavors? Through my experiences at Falmouth Academy, Wesleyan College, and the bustling streets of New York City, I’ve intertwined personal growth with career advancement. Back at Falmouth Academy, I was thrown into a world of rigorous academic challenges. It was tough, but so rewarding. Those challenges taught me the importance of embracing the discomfort of facing the unknown head-on. Little did I know, those lessons would lay the foundation for my future adventures. Enter Wesleyan College - a place bursting with opportunities for exploration and growth. Here, I delved into various disciplines, stepping out of my comfort zone at every turn. From engaging in experiential learning to taking on new challenges, Wesleyan pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. But it was the bustling streets of New York City that truly put my newfound resilience and adaptability to the test. Every day felt like a whirlwind of new experiences and obstacles, each one teaching me valuable lessons that transcended the boundaries of my personal and professional life. Through it all, I've come to realize that embracing discomfort isn't just about stepping outside your comfort zone - it's about seizing every opportunity for growth and using it to propel yourself forward in both your career and your personal journey. During my time at UNICEF and working with SNODA, an NGO in Bangladesh, I decided to improve the lives of slum children and it has made me even more committed to making a difference. Seeing the tough lives these kids face up close showed me how urgent it is to help.  It made me want to use my career to help them, even if it's not in a traditional way. Combining what I learned at UNICEF and SNODA with my education and job, I've found ways to share meals with them, hand out COVID kits to them, and help them make masks as income-generating activities. Nothing complicated. The impact of this little bit of help is enormous for them. Their smiles keep me going, reminding me that I can make a real difference in these kids' lives. Lastly, stepping outside one's comfort zone can lead to unexpected opportunities for philanthropic involvement and the profound influence such endeavors can have on both individual fulfillment and societal change. Imagine stepping into the unknown like uncovering hidden treasures, each step revealing unexpected opportunities to make a profound difference. My journey echoes this sentiment. Executive Chef Mario Nichols was born and raised in Gastonia, North Carolina. He grew up in a family who loved food, music, and culture. It was during his childhood he found himself in the kitchen with his grandmother and mom. “I believe that is where my inspiration sparked for food and how food brings people together” Chef Nichols didn’t take his craft seriously until around his 18th birthday when he had hard conversations with his mentor about business. He taught Mario that in order to make an impact, you must always remember that no matter what position you are in, you represent the company and brand. This finally put it all in perspective and allowed Mario to grow in the field. He then began traveling with his mentor to cater for the Charlotte Hornets Organization's camps, training facility, etc. "As I began my growing in the field, I stepped into a fine dining kitchen to learn a different aspect of the kitchen world. It was there I started to build other kitchen knowledge and even more passion for gastronomy. It was then I found my biggest challenge was not having the knowledge of some of the chefs who had been to culinary school. I began to dive more into the culinary world as far as terminology and online classes to further my knowledge. Many chefs who have professional culinary education are not willing to teach these skills. Mainly because it’s something they paid for. I found that to be a big challenge so in my position and through my career I am constantly sharing my knowledge and leading my team to be better. I enjoy teaching and being an inspiration to others to hone their skills." Mario Nichols began to build a name for himself in the South Carolina area where he ran a kitchen at a popular sports bar & grill which is now one of the most known bars/grills in South Carolina. The opportunity presented itself for him to team up with a friend to open a restaurant. While at the restaurant, they were able to earn "Best Breakfast Gaston County" four times - twice consecutively. They were honored to be able to cater for the majority of the Gaston County school system and surrounding districts. They were also able to feed first responders during the pandemic which meant a lot to him. After this, Chef Nichols teamed up with Nellie’s Southern Kitchen as their Executive Chef in Belmont, North Carolina in 2021. The opportunity was presented to expand NSK to Las Vegas. Mario was given the opportunity to begin traveling to the new restaurant in Las Vegas, NV at MGM Grand, initially setting up the kitchen and restaurant. This was a big step in his growth as an Executive Chef. It has been a tremendous adjustment from union knowledge to adapting to the fast pace of Vegas. Vision and Philosophy “My vision is, the role of Executive Chef comes a lot of responsibilities, but I think the best and most important to me is leadership. For me to be able to lead a team that understands the vision and is successful in carrying it out is special. We all learn something new every day about the team and ourselves.” Mario finds inspiration from a few things which he shared with us. “First, my family and friends - they are what drives me and keeps me going daily. I am always inspired by my hometown and community. I think it is important for everyone to know I come from Gastonia with a population of 87,000. We will have 87,000 people who come through the hotel where I’m currently Executive Chef, so for me if I can inspire someone from home to see where I am, it would be the biggest gift. It is a daily gift for me also as I continue my journey. I want other kids who are growing up like I did to know anything is possible if you continue the grind. I want to be that example to them while challenging myself daily". Future and Legacy The main future plan for Chef Nichols is to continue to be a part of the growth of Nellie’s and the brand. Mario also aspires to finish his cookbook. He would like to be able to go back to Gastonia and be able to share his knowledge with kids to hopefully spark their interest. Mario would love to leave that legacy for not only his family but also his community. One day Mario would love to have a facility to set up a Culinary Learning Center in his community to teach kids basic kitchen skills in hopes to inspire them to explore the culinary world. If Chef Nichols could give any advice, it would be a message he listens to every morning: "Beast Mode" by Dr, Eric Thomas - "If it’s to have, I’m gonna get it and I’m not leaving none of it behind”. Rapper Travis Scott was arrested in Miami early Thursday morning, June 20, 2024, on charges of trespassing and disorderly intoxication. The incident occurred at the Miami Beach Marina, where Scott reportedly became belligerent after being asked to leave a charter boat. According to police, Scott refused to comply and continued to cause a disturbance, yelling profanities and refusing to leave the area. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Scott was released after posting a $650 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. So, here's how it went! Motivation What motivated you to enter digital marketing and help people with self-esteem and self-knowledge? What motivated me to enter this wonderful digital marketing world was the opportunity to connect with so many people around the world, and also being able to generate an income by doing what I love, raising my son full time, and reaching like-minded individuals who also could and do benefit from all this knowledge and these different tools and outlets that we all have access to with our phones and wifi. Experience in Digital Marketing How has your experience been in creating and sharing digital content focused on self-esteem and positive energy? I think it's definitely been a challenge. I've always been a creator and a dreamer. I have a lot of creativity inside and love expressing that. But in the digital world, there are a lot of “rules” and “algorithms” - things that you need to know in order to use your platforms at your best and not get shadowbanned, or blocked, or sent to “Facebook jail” lol so it's taking me some time to learn how to utilize it correctly. As well as being the creator, editor, director, mom, etc. lol - but once you do get the hang of it and you start seeing all the people you can actually reach, and all the things that you actually learn of course, is amazing, but also a bit scary because a lot of times social media can be an outlet for people to spread a lot of hate and negativity, so that’s why I make it a thing to ALWAYS keep my posts, and engagement as positive and raw as I can. Impact on the Audience Can you share any feedback or impactful stories from someone who was helped by your work in digital marketing? One of my favorite stories about helping someone with the digital marketing world has to be about my mom - the very first reason I started doing all this healing as a woman. We had a horrible relationship growing up, and after years of healing and work, she was one of the first people to buy the course that I sell and started learning and implementing all of these tools and knowledge into building her own brand as an interior designer and business owner. It has really helped us get closer and seeing her growth means so much to me! "I try to do everything with ease and not let it consume my present moment." Balancing Personal and Professional Life How do you manage to balance your time between creating digital content, motherhood, healing practices, and self-care? For me, having a routine and a plan for every day is key. I wake up at 6 am every day, go to the gym or do a home workout, get some work, get content done, get ready for the day. My son wakes up at 9, and then I'm full mom mode, taking little breaks here and there to do something on the computer. Naptime is key for us because it helps me get more work done, especially around the house - cooking, cleaning, content, clients lol As you can see there’s a lot on my plate but I get it done because I prioritize organization and I make sure I work smart, not hard. Writing a “plan” the night before always helps out, I try to do everything with ease and not let it consume my present moment. As a single mom, I try to be as present as I can for my son which is my priority. Everything else revolves around him and his schedule for now... "My motto is mind, body, and soul..." Personal Self-Care Practices What self-care practices are essential for you, and how do they influence your work and personal life? My favorite self-care practices and the ones that are crucial for my optimal performance are working out or just moving my body, even If it's just dancing at home. Being present by practicing mindfulness, and at the end of the day, checking in with myself. What kind of day was it? How could I have done it better? How did I feel about this or that.. etc.? Checking in with myself, grounding, getting at least 10/15 min of sun every day, meditation, affirmations… so many little things depending on the mood. But they all help to release and move energy so I can always be in a high frequency and do my best with the day that I get. Healing Practices and Positive Energy How does healing integrate into your work and daily life? Healing is part of my daily life, as a human with everything that we carry. Traumas, triggers, heartaches, etc. - emotions! On top of working as a healer and being a filter for so many to release their emotions, low vibrations, pains, etc., healing helps me be a better me every day. It's part of my journey forever; I don’t think we’ll ever fully heal. Think there’s always something new depending on where we are in our journey that brings something out of us to our attention to continue healing and tackling any new challenges. Because that’s what life is really about - ups and downs, and little moments. The more positive we are and think, the more good we’ll bring into our lives. But, that doesn’t mean life won’t get difficult from time to time and that is the beauty of it. Inspiration and Future Who or what inspires you in your daily work and personal practices? I get inspired every day by people who follow their dreams and don’t let anybody’s opinions affect them or at least stop them. I love to see people get what they prayed for and worked hard for. Makes me happy to see people happy. Connecting with other like-minded individuals and hearing so many different stories always makes me appreciate my life so much more and pushes me to keep working on my dreams and getting everything I want out of life. Just like many others have done and do every day. My plan is to start creating courses on helping others learn about self-love, healing, releasing emotions, working through their traumas, and connecting to the spiritual aspect of life. My motto is mind, body, and soul and I am creating a platform where I can help others learn and practice everything that has and works for me when it comes to taking care of yourself in full balance.
